Partner Up
Marian prefers to "partner" with meeting
planners and training coordinators to ensure the success of the
event. She spent 6 years of her career working as a meeting
planner and 20 years as trainer and training coordinator. She
knows that "shift happens." Expect her to go with the flow.
Communication is key. Let her know what you need. the more
information that you can provide her, the better the program she
can provide for you.
Promises Promises
Tired of 20 page brochures that promise to solve all your
business problems in 8 hours?
Those brochures sure sound good, but when you sit back and think
about it, how could they possibly cover all the material that
they promise and do any of it justice? Did you realize that 30
bullet-point promises for a 6 hour program (9-4 with breaks and
an hour for lunch) means that you'll cover 5 points per hour.
That breaks down to 12 minutes per point. This is great for an
introduction to a topic, but how about a program with some meat?
Marian will give you the depth for which you are looking. Let
her know the area's on which you want her to spend the most time
and she'll build the program accordingly. Do you want
activities? Marian will build them into the program.
Need a kick-off keynote and then more intense training?
Marian can do both.
Oh No!! The hotel didn't set up the room?
So the room didn't get set up, or it's not
set up the way you wanted for Marian. No worries.
One group that Marian worked with discovered at the time of
group registration that the hotel had not set a room for 300.
The room was completely empty and hotel staff were nowhere to be
found! Marian had arrived one hour before her program and worked
side-by-side with the meeting planners to get the room set on
time. (She grew up in her parents hospitality, restaurant, &
travel businesses so she's in familiar territory here).
One of the speakers
can't/didn't show up?
Ask Marian to fill in. (You won't be the
first to give her a 15 minute notice that you need her help for
a program.) She is an expert in several areas and most
comfortable when she is on stage. She'll work with you to make
sure the slot not only doesn't go empty, but folks are glad you
had Marian speak instead.
OOPS! Marian's time gets cut short or your
schedule changes?
Schedules change! It's fairly common that once a member of the
executive team hits the stage, the schedule will likely hit the
road. It's the way of meetings. Flexibility is key to
Marian's message and how she responds. Just tell her what you
are working with and she'll modify her program accordingly.
(One client originally slotted Marian for a 90 minute session.
On an early break, they asked her to cut down to 60 minutes.
On the second break before her program, they asked if she could
cut it down to 30 minutes. Marian takes it with a grin and
will help you keep your schedule.
What else should I know?
Marian aims at scheduling her time so she
can catch opening remarks by organization officers and other
speakers. Do you need Marian to attend an ice-breaker or other
reception? Marian will do everything she can to make herself
available. Only another program will prevent Marian from
participating. (Early in her speaking career, Marian attended a
reception the evening before an event to help ease her
jitters...it was her first "big" client. She stumbled onto one
of her favorite ways to get to know the folks attending the
program and now makes every effort to attend any events
available prior to her program.)

"Your willingness to tailor the seminar to meet the specific
needs of our Archdiocese was extremely helpful as it allowed me
to have you address specific problems that all parish staffs
seem to have in common."

"One of our Department Heads usually brings a work folder to

Travel
Marian's office books all of her travel. When
coming from her office, Marian travels from the Kansas City
International Airport (MCI). Because of her extensive booking
schedule, however, Marian may be traveling from a different
city.
In order to maintain the utmost flexibility to work with
clients, Marian requests refundable tickets. This is in response
to the airline rules for non-refundables which have made them
relatively worthless. In order to get the maximum savings
possible for clients, Marian will book travel 14-21 days prior
to the event.
When Marian can combine travel to clients' events, she will do
so to the financial benefit of both clients. Rather than paying
for separate tickets, the cost of a single ticket will be split.
Manage your Budget
Better
To help with managing costs and eliminating surprises, clients
have the option of adding a flat travel rate of $750 for a one
day event. For each additional day, add a flat rate of $100. For
this rate, Marian will cover all her travel, transportation,
incidentals, and meal expenses. Accommodations are separate from
this flat fee. See more information on accommodations
below.

Accommodations
Ok,
booking Marian at the White House isn't necessary, but Marian
does have a few special requests. She prefers if you book her
room for a direct bill to your organization. Except for the
first two bullet-points, Marian's requests are strictly related
to personal health and safety for a female traveler.
for an article to learn more about Marian's requests and your
own travel safety. When booking a room for Marian, please
request:
- A room for the night before and the night of her
program.
- King preferred (queen or double is fine if a king is not
available)
- Non-smoking room
- Above the 1st floor and below the 7th
Near elevators or main lobby
- Please avoid a courtyard hotel/motel unless it is your
only option. In that case, please request an interior facing
room, close to the lobby, and without outside access
- A bowl full of dark chocolate green MnM's (Just
kidding!, but Marian's not known for turning down
chocolate if it's offered.)

Hold a
date/Billing
To hold a date with Marian, call or email Marian's office
(contact info and email link is at the bottom of this page). The
date will be held on a basis of "first right of refusal."
Marian's office will then invoice you for a deposit of 50% of
the speaking fee. Once the deposit is received, the program
moves from being a hold to being a booking. A booking means that
the date belongs to you, the client.
If a date change or a cancellation occurs, Marian asks that the
client notify her office immediately. If the event is within 60
days, the client has a choice of rebooking Marian for another
date (pending Marian's availability) or forfeiting half of the
deposit. If the event is within 30 days, the client has a choice
of rebooking Marian for another date (pending Marian's
availability) or forfeiting all of the deposit. In the event of
a postponement or cancellation, if travel has already been
booked, then the travel expenses will be invoiced to the client
separately from the deposit.
